Jack
A former miner turned cyborg scout, Jack is the wildcard of the Commandos.
Jack is a core member of the Black Forest Commandos. Originally appearing as a humble miner in the Black Forest, he has undergone a significant transformation into a high-tech cyborg scout.
Biography
In the events of Black Forest Shadow, Jack was a miner who initially found himself on the wrong side of the conflict, inadvertently aiding the CVE monsters. In the final battle, he betrays Angra Mainyu, and escapes.
The Neo-Hague Mission starts when Dutch King summons the Black Forest Commandos and tells them he's going to tell them about whereabouts of Jack, if they help him with a mission in Neo-Hague, a secret AI-controlled underwater city they have built, but now has gone rogue.
It is revealed that the city has been using Jack as a slave, and has turned him into a cyborg, wired to the city's mainframe. The Commandos rescue him, and he becomes a part of the team.
By the time of the Asgard Mission, Jack has been augmented with cybernetic parts, granting him advanced scanning and scouting abilities. His transformation represents the bridge between old-world grit and new-world technology.
Abilities & Equipment
- Cyborg Sensors: Jack can detect CVEs mimicking human behavior, which is hidden to the naked eye.
- Stealth & Scouting: He often acts as the team's vanguard, mapping out enemy positions.
Trivia
- In the beginning of the book Docker and Kubernetes Security, Jack is described as a "Bitcoin miner", which is a nod to his original profession as a miner in the Black Forest. The book's preface says that whole purpose of the book is to keep "Jack the Bitcoin miner" out of your cluster.
- In Asgard Arcade, Jack is the main character in the game Blackjack.
- In card games in Asgard Arcade, Jack's face is on the Jack card, which is a nod to his name and his role as a wildcard in the Commandos.
- In Swiss Jass: Commandos Edition, Jack's card is renamed to "Jack the Buur" when the suit is selected as a trump. Buur has the highest value in the game, and means "farmer" (Bauer in German), which is a nod to Jack's original profession as a miner.
