Schattenburg
The ancient castle in the Black Forest that served as the prison for Angra Mainyu.
Schattenburg (literally "Shadow Castle") is a fortress of immense age hidden deep within the Black Forest. It is a place where the boundaries between realms are thin, and for generations, it served as the high-security prison for the entity known as Angra Mainyu.
The Architecture of Containment
The castle was designed with multiple layers of defense—not to keep invaders out, but to keep the darkness in. Each chamber was isolated from the next, preventing the spread of the shadow corruption. The prison is overseen by the warden YAML Voorhees and is guarded by the dragon-archer Aži Dahāka.
The 1865 Breach
During the events of Black Forest Shadow, the seals of Schattenburg were ultimately shattered. Despite the valiant efforts of Gord and Rothütle, the prisoner managed to escape his physical bounds after a fierce battle. While the castle remains a site of immense historical importance, it is now an empty monument to the darkness that once dwelled within.
